Shiva lingam |
The answer will be weird for many of you
- " it depicts the sexual intercourse between a male and a female".
The Sanskrit word Lingam has been interpreted as a symbol of male creative energy or the Phallus(Erect penis).
Similarly the Sanskrit word Yoni means Vagina.
Yoni |
Our ancestors worshiped this Lingam-Yoni sculpture because they thought Sex is the reason for the birth of a new organism and evolution.
According to Hindu mythology people believe that this lingam and yoni depicts the non-duality of
Lord Shiva and Parvathi. They believed that Shiva and Parvathi are united which creates Shakthi(Power) for running the universe.
Non-duality of shiva & parvathi |
It shows that wife is other half of husband. The picture shows image of shiva and parvathi united as a single being. It symbolically represents that male and female should unite for the purpose of evolution of life.
Lingam & Yoni |
Many of us doesn't know the real reason for usage of Lingam to depict Lord Shiva. Simply we goto temple and pray just like that without knowing the real meaning of it.

ReplyDeleteThank u machi....
ReplyDeletewhere is this temple
ReplyDeleteGood info..
ReplyDeleteThe Shivlinga is a pillar of fire. No Shaiva scripture mentions it as anything as.
ReplyDeleteThe literal meaning of the Shivlinga is ''the form (linga) of Shiva.''
Absolutely right
DeleteMahadeva shambo..
ReplyDeleteIts related to Shiva . it is the form of matter and energy. In Hindi striling means related to feminine.
ReplyDeleteSo it is related to shivA
Not mentioned above.....
The Shiva lingam is a profound symbol of the Life Force, Energy, Vitality, Spirit or spiritual power which must penetrate Material, Matter, earthly praxis, in evolutionary terms. This penetration will be sustained as Humanity interacts with Divinity. Lingam is a physical representation of an important metaphoric, metaphysical truth. Other possible double-edged icons or images may be used also, to convey these dualisms. For instance, the sword, the tongue, language, all of which are double-edged, and can be used to communicate good or evil, for Go(o)d purposes or the Evil, (i.e. D evil). We need to understand metaphor, in order to appreciate metaphysical reality.

ReplyDeleteUnderstand and learn Sanskrit language and education yourself first. Yoni means womb a complete part of womb where the child nourishes by nature. Womb is the thing which is capable of making a living being inside it. It's not vagina. Vedic people were not symbolizing vagina as Yoni it's just womb. Vedic science is beyond sex the linga is symbol of Shiva the symbol of universe. It's the start and it's the end. And only yoni (womb) is capable of having that big amount of energy in it. So the womb is highly appreciated for holding that kinda of energy to hold complete universe in it. So "it's not at all about sex". Don't mislead people with half knowledge
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. I wish people like you and me would come up with creative ideas to lead the humans in the right direction. And we are able to connect with one another. If you wish you can watch my channel by the name of Magical Yogi.
Deleteright pls dont play with peoples fait and spirituality
DeleteAnd where does the womb located?
DeleteThere is lot of misleading knowledge on the net. I am a Reiki Master and a teacher. I am looking for the right knowledge and for that you need a good Guru. But these days all the euniches have become gurus and they are misleading the whole human race. They all are running after sex and power. And for that they have gone against the nature. They have mutilated their root organs and thus got disconnected from mother earth. I was looking for a solution to that when I landed on this website. Satyam Shibam Sundaram
ReplyDeleteThe 2 dimensional representation that we see in temples is that means wrong. The lingam enters the yoni or the womb then there should be a sphere over the lingam and not under it.
ReplyDeletethis is stupid. shiva mean notingness, linga mean form, the shape of the linga represents the form the matter when its created like from smallest particle to the cosmic egg.. dont spread ignorance...
ReplyDeleteWRONG IT NOT DEPICTING SEXUAL ORGANS
ReplyDeleteIT JUST MEANS ENERGY
DON'S SPREAD HINDUPHOBIA
Yes it is accept the fact. That's what hinduism teaches. If you don't like this teaching then you're not a hindu.
DeleteFor those who deny this truth (that linga means penis), should look up "yoni" on Google.

Pls do not give wrong information. How can one compare God's physical form with that of a human being,be it male or female. Do not insult Hinduism. If you don't understand just leave it or get the right information. But do not mislead innocent Hindus, who are converting themselves to other religion.
